Last night we attended Coco & Breezy’s first runway for their signature eyewear. Titled “Rainy Days,” the collection “represents a shield of protection for those taunted for being different.” Known for bold studded eyewear with a sci-fi edge and the idea of being out of this world, Spring 2012 sees a softer more subtle silhouette in various hues we can see as having a broader appeal.
The show opened with an umbrella clad ballerina, a violinist a short film and a voice narrating the trajectory of the twins who pretty much dropped averything in their native Minesota and moved to New York to follow their fashion dreams .
While the eyewear was the highlight, the closing looks featuring body hugging dresses made in collaboration with Courtney M. Roberts (a college student) caught our eye.
Pioneering stylist Misa Hylton-Brim checked out the Coco & Breezy show at a private residence near Union Square last night and GlobalGrind quizzed her about what she saw and is experiencing during NY Fashion Week.

What are your thoughts about Coco and Breezy’s show?
Misa Hilton-Brim: I love Coco and Breezy! It is always exciting to see up and coming designers and their innovative designs, and just watching someone come up through the fashion world, so to speak. It is always exciting for me. I mean, you can go to like the big designer shows and this and that, but this is where you find the trends and you find what is really popping.
The Coco & Breezy show had plenty of surprises and one of them was Nicki Minaj’s hairstylist Terrence Davidson.
We quizzed Davidson about the presentation and his work with Nicki!
Hi Terrence! What did you think of the Coco & Breezy presentation?
Terrence Davidson: I think it was amazing. I got a couple of glasses that I need to get from them so I have to reach out to them ASAP. I want three or four of them; they are crazy!
Did you see anything that Nicki might like?
Yeah, the ones with the yellow definitely, and I think there were some turquoise ones; those two! I know she probably would love those.
There are many things we love about Corianna and Brianna Dotson. They are dope, they are fearless and they own their personal style. Thankfully for the fashion folks, the twin sisters have translated that into their own accessories label called Coco & Breezy, inspired by their nicknames, which features sunglasses that are as offbeat as their style. When they were 19 years old, Corianna and Brianna started Coco & Breezy after moving from Minnesota to join the hundreds of aspirants in New York. While their age could have created an obstacle in pursuing their dream, they didn’t let it become an hinderance. In fact it’s one of the reasons why the young designers think Coco & Breezy appeals to many.
“They can relate to us,” Brianna shares. “I mean we’re young designers. We don’t let our age stops us so that we can show to young and older people that anything is possible.”
And they’ve definitely have proven it. Now at 20 years old, the designers are gaining recognition from the industry and celebrities including Ashanti, Nicki Minaj and Beyonce, and it’s only going to get brighter from here. We talked to Brianna on what it’s like to be young black designers, biggest rewards and an exclusive detail to their new collection for Spring 2012.

At the tender age of 19, the ladies took a chance and left the comforts and familiarity of their hometown to venture to New York City. The gamble paid off big time within a few weeks of their arrival when R&B diva Ashanti rocked a pair of their cutting edge sunglasses on the red carpet of the VH1 Hip-Hop Honors show. Since then, a plethora of celebrities have donned the ladies’ designs, and the fast moving success of their company has put them on the fashion map, making them celebrities in their own right. In this exclusive CherryOnTop interview, the ladies speak on their company’s success, being different, the celebrity they most want to work with and what they hope the future has in store for their brand. “Viral Status Magazine catches up with Coco and Breezy after a panel discussion at Barnard College. The panel was called “To Be Hip, Gifted & Black”. It was a discussion on the journey’s of individuals roads to success…how they delt with downfalls, and their run-in’s with being black entrepreneurs trying to make it in America. In all it was a very inspiring and well versed panel, and to cap it off we brought the two aside to shed some insight on their style, what they listen to, and what’s next for them.”

As Nyne began to contemplate the launch of her new line of jewelry, she thought hard about who would be the face of that line. In a second, she realized that celebrity sunglass designers Coco & Breezy would epitomize the energy she wanted to exude.
